Senator Friedman’s Statement of Endorsement
I don’t usually lend my voice in local elections in my communities as I am, and will steadfastly remain, committed to working with whomever my towns choose as their leaders. However given the enormous challenges facing our state and municipalities now and in the coming months and years, the relationships between all levels of government in our commonwealth are more critical than ever. That is why I am veering from my standard practice to ask you to support Joe Pato and Vineeta Kumar for the Lexington Select Board.
I have had the privilege of working closely with the Lexington Select Board over the past several years. It has been collegial and solution oriented. When they have needed the involvement of the state, the Board has well represented the best interests of Lexington while understanding the constraints and barriers the state faces in sometimes fully filling those needs. They have put forth common sense solutions and have been great colleagues and partners. Suzie Barry has been an integral part of the team and an excellent representative for Lexington. I will miss working with her and she leaves big shoes to fill.
Joe Pato is also part of that great team and given the turbulence of the times, I feel it is as important as ever to have his continued commitment, knowledge and skills representing Lexington. His thoughtful, analytical approach to problem solving as well as his understanding of the many sides of an issue are critical to maintaining the smooth workings of the town. These qualities are also very much needed representing Lexington in the important relationship with the state.
Vineeta Kumar brings a fresh voice to the Select Board. Her intelligence and ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of stakeholders is again, just what we need where even civil discourse is under attack. Her substantial experience as a management consultant and business leader focusing on capital markets helping companies improve their financial performance and operational efficiency will bring a meaningful perspective to the board. Her blend of financial experience and her excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a needed asset as the town makes key decisions around the major capital projects currently on the table as well as for future planning to position Lexington on a sustainable growth path.
The residents of Lexington have several good candidates to choose from. I believe that Joe and Vineeta bring valuable experience and positive energy to the Select Board. They bring their ability to work as a team, appreciate and consider different perspectives and work toward solutions, all qualities that will continue to make Lexington a strong, welcoming and thriving community. For these reasons I ask you to cast your vote for Joe Pato and Vineeta Kumar for Select Board on Monday, March 3.
Lexington has always had so many residents who are willing to help steer her into the future while recognizing her honored past and legacy. I never take for granted how lucky I am to represent this amazing town and the people who live here.
