Effective June 30, 2021, the new Lexington Center Speed Limit is 20MPH. The Select Board unanimously passed the creation of the Center safety zone in June of 2020 and implementation will commence on June 30, 2021.
Installation of new 20 MPH speed limit signs is anticipated for the week of June 28 in Lexington Center as part of a newly established safety zone. The reduced speed limit is intended to keep drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists safer in this highly trafficked section of town.
There is significant documentation identifying this Town Center corridor as having an above average number of accidents. Several intersections and crossings within the new Safety Zone have been included on MassDOT’s online interactive Top Crash Locations Map as Top 200 Intersection Crash Clusters, HSIP Crash Clusters, HSIP Bicycle Crash Clusters, and/or HSIP Pedestrian Clusters
